New to the board and to Volvos - 1997 V90 S90-V90

Hi Greg:
I like my 965, although it has its quirks. My experience is that people seem to have a really good 960/V/S/90 and love it or a really bad one and hate it. I figure that you bought the car from your father so you know it was well taken care of and had no serious problems, so I suggest that you will like the car.

Read the 960 information in the 700/900 series FAQs on this site for some good information about the cars. I suggest that you run synthetic oil and flush the transmission and run synthetic ATF. My recommendation is to use only the volvo blue coolant. Check the radiator for cracks on the plastic sides, especially where the top radiator hose connects to the radiator. Change the thermostat if it hasn't been done lately. The timing belt needs to be changed religiously (I assume it was changed at 70K; make sure it was).

The interior leather is nice but needs maintenance. I was using Lexol, but recently used Leatherique which made a serious (positive) difference in the look and feel.

Good luck with the car. Keep reading the board.
