Will an voltage regulator with slightly different part number work 1800

I'm having problems with my battery charging system. Alternator tested fine,
battery is fairly new, so I'm suspecting the voltage regulator.

I bought a new unit but the numbers are off by 4. Should I be concerned?

My car came with
0190 601 010 AD1/14V 626

The new unit has
0190 601 006 AD1/14V 281

How can I test proper functioning?

Thanks

Hoping to make the golden gate drive this Sunday.

Put a voltage meter across the battery. It should read 12 volts with the engine off. Next run the engine now the reading should be in 13 to 14 volt range.

If it looks about the same.... it'll probably be fine. But don't necessarily count on it to work... I've had plenty of alternators test fine, and not work. Also have had alternators test fine, and trash regulators.

My opinion is that the best bet is a AC Delco conversion. Kits available, and if done right, you can always go back for originality.

As for your drive on Sunday, keep in mind that it don't take much juice to keep the car going. If you ain't running headlights, you'd probably be OK even if it doesn't charge. If its fuel injected, that will hurt you a bit though.

Just tote an extra battery in case the first one goes dead, and avoid headlights, loud stereo, etc...
