headlight woes 200

Replaced a bad high\low beam on one side today. Now both low beams work just fine, but when high beams are engaged all 4 lights go out.I suspect headlight relay on fender but at 32$ replacement I'd like to be sure before spending $$$.Car is a 1980 244DL.It is originally from CA so it has the 4 rectangular lights. Before replacing the one bulb all the lights came on in high beam mode except the one burned out high beam. There now doesn't appear to be any power at the bulbs. This just doesn't make any sense.Any ideas\help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'd suspect the relay as you mentioned. When the relay on mine went out I had to drive with the brights on, or else none would work... (sorry to all the people I blinded on the freeway out there somewhere). Usually, if I'm not sure if the relay is the problem I just get one from the junkyard since they're cheap. Just to test the problem out with first. Thats if you have a yard with Volvo's in it, which can be rare.
