1990 740 radio replacement 700 1990

Will a CR-718 radio/cassette from what is claimed to be a 1991 740 replace a TD-6141 in my 1990 740? I only found reference to the CR in the context of 940s so I'm not sure if it comes out of a 740. My 6141 lights up and appears to function but no sound comes out of any speaker. Local tech believes the problem to be the radio and not the amp. Have found cheap CR-718. Thanks in advance!

You can get a really nice aftermarket unit with a kit that will offer much better performance... check Crutchfield (.com) I used to sell these guys Blaupunkt Radios.. they are literally the BEST. Outstanding service always and they are great at matching up the accessories to make an easy and harmless install.

I just replaced my wife's Saturn radio with a very inexpensive CD unit and it blew her mind... she is VERY resitant to change and spending $$ on "unneeded" items, now she wants speakers.

PS- get ANY after market speakers and you will hear Big improvements Crutchfield can make sure they are easy fit.

good luck and good sound.

It should be a plug-n-play fit, but double check the shapes of the harness plugs on the back. the round 6-pin is for the amp cable, and the harnesss cable should be 14-pin,basically rectangular with the top row and the bottom row offset. All of the speakers being out sure sounds more like the amp connection, either the din cable or the harness from the amp to the speaker wiring, although both are locked in place and rarely just jiggle loose. Let us know what you find.
By the way, there's a swedish/dutch site you can find with the title "Volvo 200" etc. which has parts number listings and some specs on all the audio wequipment ever used on the 2xx series volvo. I don't have the addess handy, but it's easy to figure out what the data is, even though it's not in English.

I put an aftermarket stereo in my 760, and what a difference. Crutchfield offers great return and service policies, and if you buy from them, you get the wiring harness and any installation parts you need FREE. I highly recommend them. The factory amp in my 760 was only a 25x2watt, and the onboard amp built into my new CD stereo is over four times as powerful. Of course I needed to replace all four speakers and run new wires, but it sounds terriffic.
