Air conditioning 200 1986

My 245 has a recently replaced compressor (April) but does not seem to be cooling very well. It cools, but doen't get cold. When I look at the 'sight glass' on the dryer, as the unit is running, I see a turbulent, milky appearing stream. Is this as it should be or should I see a smooth stream of refrigerant? Does this indicate a low charge? There is some oil accumulation below the dryer.

Thanks in advance.

Bama, who replaced the compressor? In my 1990, had coffee colored fluid in sight glass. Intermittent or turbulent I think is a sign of low charge. However, agree with Ayeroll that the color might mean other things, like new receiver dryer in order. I am replacing several parts on mine, - compressor, dryer, upper hose, and will likely have it evacuated completely before getting it recharged to specs.

John,

A local shop installed it prior to my purchase of the car. It is covered by a year's warranty but I am concerned (haven't called them yet) the warranty will only be granted to the original owner. I think you are correct that a turbulent flow is a low charge. I also believe that there is some type of leak at the dryer as there is oil in that area.

Probably moisture in the system. May need to simply evacuate and recharge to proper fill. May need a new receiver/dryer. Any system thats been open for any length of time will get moisture in it and needs a long evacuation with a vacuum pump.
A/C in older cars is the toughest system to keep working. Good luck with it.
