'88' 240 brake failure light won't go out 200

I have a 1988 240 dl without antilock brakes. The brake failure switch valve developed a leak that required replacement of the entire valve. After bleeding the brake the dash brake failure light stays on. I re-bled the brakes in sequence but the light still stays on. The brakes work fine. Can anyone tell me the secret to getting this light to go out. My daughter is taking the car to school in a few days and I want it to work correctly since it is 320 miles from here.

Concerned Pa.

Presumably this was a new valve/junction block (not a fun job). If so, the sliding "balance piston" inside should have recentered itself once both system pressures were equalized.

Try removing the switch (in case it's putting a bind on the slider) and pumping the brakes a few times. There should be no fluid loss (from a new valve) with the switch out.

There is a nice exploded view of this part in the photo "Gallery" -- Technical Section, on the 4th or 5th page.

Also, Art Benstein had a long post on this problem just a few days ago.

You are not alone. Check the Archives, FAQs, and do a search. There have been good posts with pictures.

Good Luck,
