Oil Filter Relocation Kit on a 240 Turbo? 200

Has anyone added an oil filter relocation kit to their turbo brick? The oil filter is very difficult to access on the 240 turbo and I'm thinking of adding a relocation kit. I've found one of the kits that IPD used to sell and wondered if anyone has any tips or advise.

Thanks

There's no denying that "quality" lines and fittings are best. But I put the filter on the firewall ('86 na & 83 Turbo) 10 or 11 years ago, using supplied hoses & clamps, and have had no problems so far.

I'm not saying it was the best choice — just that it worked for me (and that I know I'm pushing it at this point).

Firewall location, with filter screwing up (poor choice of words), makes it easy to install the new filter already full of oil.

Clean to remove too. Just cram a margarine tub on the filter bottom before you unscrew it. The tub will catch what little overflows.

P.S. This location makes it easy to mark the date & mileage on the new filter — and see it every time you're under the hood.

I've had an ipd remote filter on my 84 245(non-turbo) for about 15 years. Every 5-or-so, I have to replace the o-ring that seals the adapter to the block. And I have used hose-barb-and-clamp all along - not pretty, but it has worked fine.

I also have an oil cooler (ipd) in the extra plumbing.

Yeah, I googled that one earlier today. My only reservation is the rubber hoses, but the price is good.

Yeah, you definitely don't want hose barbs and screw clamps. Look in the yellow pages under "rubber". These commercial suppliers will custom make industrial grade hydraulic hoses. They will also carry the adapters.

Try all the links on BB. Even local auto parts stores should be able to order a kit for you from there specialty catalogs. I'm contemplating installing the remote mount on the inside of the frame rail just behind the radiator. It would be easy to access from under the front of the car. You would have to remove the splash guard each time. Perhaps even cutting a round hole in the splash guard with just enough clearance for a filter wrench on an extension.

Forget the ribber hoses, use Aeroquipt brainded steel hoses and Aeroquipt fittings, anything else is a compromise.

And ask Pablo he sells a pretty good Amsoil kit.

The IPD kit comes with steel braided lines.
