There's no denying that "quality" lines and fittings are best. But I put the filter on the firewall ('86 na & 83 Turbo) 10 or 11 years ago, using supplied hoses & clamps, and have had no problems so far.

I'm not saying it was the best choice — just that it worked for me (and that I know I'm pushing it at this point).

Firewall location, with filter screwing up (poor choice of words), makes it easy to install the new filter already full of oil.

Clean to remove too. Just cram a margarine tub on the filter bottom before you unscrew it. The tub will catch what little overflows.

P.S. This location makes it easy to mark the date & mileage on the new filter — and see it every time you're under the hood.
