Loose connection 700

For some time now my fuel gauge, voltmeter and some times my temp gauge dont work or rather work intermitantly. Do they all connect at the same point. Is there a relay that could be failing? Thanks db 89 745 tic

They all use the same voltage regulator located on instrument cluster. Common to get cold solder joints.

Do they pop back to correct readings with a whack on top of the dashboard?
Our 88 744 does that, and our neighbors "new" 88 745 does that. I hate 740 instruments. At least the speedometers don't break like 240's.
I don't have a fix for it but it's connection points in the gauge cluster. They're just finicky and fragile.

hah! that's exactly what my temperature and gas gauges do. a sharp tap on the plastic of the instrument clusters makes it jump right up

I havent tried the big bang theory but will give it a shot. I look for a bump in the road which has had limited success. db
