All back together but still can't bleed clutch. Need advice. 700 1988

I just finished the clutch job tonight by getting the driveshaft back in and spliced in some new wires to the trans harness.

Anyway, I've tried and tried to bleed the clutch but still no dice. I've used my vacumn pump, done it manually with my wife pumping the pedal and it gets close, but not quite there. I can start the car and get it into third but no other gear engages as the clutch isn't disengaging completely.

Each time we start to bleed I get a good spurt of air, then clear fluid for another 4 or 5 cycles.

I'm having her pump twice and hold while I crack the bleed screw and watch the fluid in a clear tube to a can half full of fluid.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated as I'm near the end of my rope and Leigh is starting to complain about the dead 740 in the back.

All this after may last post regarding bleeding too.

Thanks,

What works for me is to have a helper press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and hold. Then I open the bleed screw, and the air/fluid comes out. Then I close the bleed screw and tell my helper to let the pedal all of the way up and then to depress and hold again. Repeat, repeat, etc. until no more air comes out. It has worked on the four M46 700 series which we have owned.

Thanks 700 1988

I'll have Leigh just press and hold instead of pumping twice. That'ts the only thing I'm doing differently than what you suggested. I did reuse the copper crush washer between the hose and slave cylinder and it might be seeping. Hard to tell though. The wetness and drip could be coming from the bleed nipple and tube I'm using.

Almost there!
Thanks,
