wont start 200 1984

Ijust bought an 84 245 turbo and it won't start.I've checked fuel and spark, seam ok.The weird thing is it will try to start for about 2 seconds, just long enough for me to think it will run.Injector spray looks good, spark looks good.HELP.

If your car has a ballast resistor, the start-stall, start-stall symptoms are that of a loose wire to it. It's a cylinder about 4 to 5 inches long 3/8"(?) thick on the strut hump below the passenger side hood hinge.

Sorry, I missed the turbo reference. So it's K-Jet, not LH. Is the FI Relay being energized OK? Do you have meter or test light to check it?

How about fuse 13? (required to pick the FI Relay) And ignition pulses on W/R wire to terminl 31b? (also required)

The Lambda relay on the fender rail? (picked by the FI relay, 87b)

Sometimes the FI relay will get a short pick with Key ON - enough to buzz the pumps for a second, giving enough for cold start injector. But if it doesn't stay picked, that's all you get.

Fuel Injection Relay info 200 1984

The FI relay (rectangular, 6 terminals) is over by the driver's left knee - maybe tucked down behind the side panel. Take the under-dash "hush panel" off to look for it. It should be the only one with a Yellow/Red wire. The terminals are:

30, Red wire, 12v input from Fuse 7 to relay operating armature/point

15, BL/R wire, 12v with Key ON, via Fuse 13. Part of an "AND" condition to energize relay coil

31b, W/R wire, pulses from Ign. Coil negative terminal. The other half of the "AND" needed to pick (and hold) the relay. Easy to see with a Test Light. Not sure how it looks with a meter.

87, YELLOW/RED wire, 1 of 2 outputs. Feeds the 12v from input (30) to Main pump, and to fuse 5 for Tank pump

87b, Blue wire, the other output. Feeds 12v to Aux Air Valve heater, Warm-Up/Control Pressure Regulator, and picks the        Lambda Relay on the fender rail (Lambda=mixture control circuitry).

31, Black wire, relay coil ground.

Check out Trev29's hint too. That resistor is in the Ignition coil primary when running, but bypassed for starting. It's failure would fit your symptoms.

Also check the wires + and - at the coil. Especially the R/W on the negative terminal. I think there are 3 of them, and I've seen those crimp terminals break with age.

My quick guess is that the short initial run is on fuel from the cold start injector. How did you determine fuel supply is OK?
How did you get pressure to test injector spray?

Have you tried jumpering 12 volts to Fuse 5? (Fuse 7 is always hot). This should run both pumps. If it starts & runs this way, the trouble is back in the relay circuit. (Don't run it long with jumper to F5. Too much current.)

Also, have you checked. cleaned, or replaced the 25 amp blade fuse near the coil?

Yes i did the fuse five thing, there is no blade fuse by the coil.I agree with the cold start thing but i've got good presure on all the injectors. I'm getting pretty frustrated and i'm running out of thing to try. Thanks very much for all replies.

sounds like something simple, check conections and grounds around ignition box
