Coolant leak at the resorvoir? 900

Hi,

Well, i noticed that i got some coolant leaking at the resorvoir, i changed the hose clamp thinkinh that it's old and not keepin the hose tightly clamped..but today i see that it is still leaking. How much is the hose coming from the resorvoir..anyone ever experience this type of leak before?

thanks,

xallenx

It is most likely the plastic nipple. This is reinforced by a piece of metal piping. The plastic gets brittle and cracks. If this is the problem, when removing the hose make sure no plastic pieces fall into the hose. FCPG sells the OE OF tank and you can then add a low coolant level sensor for an additional $19+ a little. Check the FAQ.

Dick is correct. See the FAQ for a picture of reservoir failure.

Hey xallenx, that hose is about $70 US from the dealer, no kidding!! I'm putting off the preventive-maintenance replacement of mine for that reason.

You can get aftermarket hoses a little cheaper at FCP Groton. You can't use generic heater hose [as another poster suggests] since the hose has the smaller offshoot hose going to the turbo. If you had a N/A engine, you could use generic heater hose for this application.

Also, there were signs on the inner fender that coolant was squirting out that ver connection. I bought a new green Genuine Volvo cap for the tank, and it doesn't leak any more.

FYI I bought the fluid level sensor from mcmaster-carr as suggested in the FAQ, and am going to install it this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes -- I'm sure you'll be keen on doing the same if yours doesn't already have one.

I suppose the [other] poster should have mentioned that they carry a long line of "T" adapters. lol

Yes, it is what I use, no it's NOT impossible, or my every turbo is impossible. lol.

I'm not suggesting it, just stating it as another means (one that runs under $20).

Great, thanks! I may exercise this option in the near future -- keep my current as an onboard spare...

You can have 3 to 4 sources of problems at that point. 1. cap 2. resevoir: cracks 3. hose and finally 4. clamp binds, especially original Volvo. The entire system ages---I know from leaking experience.

I've had to replace it on almost all of my older 7 & 9 projects. It ages and begins to seperate, letting coolant leak from the sandwiched cord....

I don't buy the original part, I use generic heater hose from NAPA
