possesed cruise control ?? 700 1989

Just yesterday I noticed some weird things with my cruise control - it has been working fine but when I hit the brake it disengages only to reengage a few seconds later- multiple taps on the brake pedal produce the same result, also I noticed if I held the engage button down it would act as an accelerate function, is this correct ? the manual doesn't address these points at all

The brake switch for the cruise control both breaks vacuum to the servo, and electrically disconnects the cruise control. The symptoms which you describe are usually caused by a brake pedal switch which only breaks the vacuum and not the electric circuit. The clutch pedal (but not the brake pedal) on my wife's car is doing exactly that. Get a new switch, install it, and adjust it.

The accelerate function is working properly, and is described in the owner's manual.

The only way that could be happening is if A. You have a sticking button on the end of the turn signal stock. B. The switch on the stock (Off, ON, Resume) is sticking on the resume side of the switch. C. Bad cruise control relay.

Turn off the cruise control and see if it still does it. Turn it back on
(don't go to the resume side) and see if it disengages when you hit the brake. Probably the button on the end is closing the circuit all the time not just when you push it.

You know what, I used to have a '90 760 turbo wagon that did the same thing. Just for no apparent reason it would engage and go to last speed setting. Was very dangerous in congested traffic conditions. Anyway, I would turn it, the control switch, off until I needed it again. Never did figure it out. And you are right, hard to find info on this...
