rough idle 700 1990

Have a 90 740 ( Regina) that will bearly idle below 50 degs. Sounds like running on about one cylinder for 30 seconds. Shakes, sputters, coughs, generally will hardly run. Applying throttle is no help and only prolongs the episode. Has good spark and all the following are good/reciently replaced. FP relay, RS relay, rpm sensor, new hose from the temp sensor to the throttle body, throttle body cleaned 3 months ago, FPR changed 6 months ago, fuel pump sounds OK. I checked the FAQ a while back and ran across a possibility but forgot to mark the page and now can't find it. Any ideas appreciated as always.

"new hose from the temp sensor to the throttle body," ????

That got my attention. I have a '93 940 Regina but don't know of any temp sensor with a hose on it. So that's my question.

As to your idling problem, the ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor may be at fault — giving the wrong info to the Regina CU. Also, have you checked for OBD codes?

Thanks Bruce. My goof. What I'm calling a "hose" (it isn't really) is the large air duct (4" dia. +/-) that runs from the air cleaner to the throttle body. The Regina system uses an air temp. sensor in place of an AMM although it's located in the same place within this large diameter air duct. There is a single wire going to the sensor. It has one of those thumb killer connectors where you push in the wire bale to release it.

No codes in the OBD. Will have to give the ECT sensor a look.
