Trapped Oil Trap 200 1985

I'm having a devil of a time accessing my oil trap to clean it (never been done to my knowledge). It sits below the intake manifold. I really don't want to have to remove the intake manifold to access the oil trap. Any tips?

Go to a neighborhood Volvo dealer, buy an intake manifold gasket and take off the intake manifold.

Everything, and I mean everything is accessible if you do that. It is relatively easy to remove the intake manifold. Believe me it is. You can even replace (a great time to do it) all of the vacume hoses also. They are right there. Believe me, a couple of connections and few bolts and the sucker if off.

Then, the wiring harness is right there, the vacume hoses are right there, the flame trap is right there. You can even extend it with the IPD kit if you want.

So much easier to simply remove the intake manifold.

Just remember to get a new intake manifold gasket.

Lawren

Trapped Oil Trap 200 1985

I posted this a month ago... might be a good idea if you want to do a homemade conversion, which is GREAT! Now, it only takes me 5 minutes to clean the trap on my '85 240. Just have patience getting the old one out. The converion only takes about 30 minutes.

I thought I noticed a taller oil box on the later 240's in the junkyard, but I wasn't sure. I didn't use the "s" shaped pipe at all, but grabbed two of everything just in case. I used an extra rubber pipe that runs from the intake hose to trap (used on later style) on the oil box-through the intake manifold. I cut both ends off to fit accordingly. I just stuck the trap and holder inside that pipe at the top then fit the last rubber pipe to the air intake hose and to top/cover trap. Everything is clean and fits tighter than the original trap. I didn't have any problems w/ the wiring harness at all. I also found out that my original flame trap was missing the trap part with the small holes.

Mine had a plastic lug on top for securing the wiring harness, and this was stopping the box from clearing the inlet manifold. I snipped the lug off and fastened the wires somewhere else. It is still a tight fit, but possible.
