Scan -Tech Splash Pan 700 1990

Hello All,

I hit a large Groundhog on the way back from a late shift a couple of weeks ago and it completely shattered the aforementioned pan. I would have bought IPD's OEM version for what looked like a bargain price of $30 but their $27 shipping + 1.25 handling charge(!) caused a rapid re-direct to FCP Groton.

I recall reading some posts here which were none too complimentary about this item and said it needed to be re-drilled before it would fit the car. Forgive me if I'm re-hashing ancient territory here (the search facility seems to be down just now), anyway, can I reasonably expect to bolt this thing on or how much "adjustment" does it really need?

Many Thanks,

Matthew

I used IPD without any problems and it has been removed at least six times to do work and it still looks good. I am ready to use washers when the need arises but that has not been the case.

When you install it, use construction adhesive and large fender washers to reinforce the holes (where they always crack) and make it last much longer.

Yeah, once in a while I've had to drill those little things to get them to fit. It got to the point where I was hauling them out with a cordless drill too (customer jobs) whenever I did one. But usually they fit OK.

Anyway, who cares if you have to drill the thing. It takes 30 seconds. That is my opinion on the matter anyway. Thirty seconds of drilling vs. $30 additional. I don't mind drilling it for that savings. Customers seemed to like the $40 installed price. Beat the pants off the dealer for some outrageous amount.

Yes, the expatrite is the one with the simple solution. I actually had a mechanic, Volvo, tell me that it was the wrong one, or defective simply because he couldn't make the holes match. I couldn't help but wonder if the sob could even spell drill much less use one!

I bought one from eEuroparts (one of the advertisers here) several months back for $25 ... it fitted fine on my '91.

Buy another $15 of stuff from them (like extra filters) and the shipping is free.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response...It actually arrived from FCP today. It's good to know you had no problems fitting it. I've been getting a bit paranoid about heavy rain killing something electrical while it's been off & I took my brand new pre-heat hose off too just in case...

Cheers,

Matthew

I am also in need of a new splash pan. Please post your notes/opinion on your installation of the scantech splash pan from FCP Groton. I thank you in advance for your informative post.

Hello All,

Thanks for all the helpful responses.

The aforementioned splash pan showed up from FCP a couple of days ago and I put it on this morning. It fits just fine. You have to squeeze it around some to line it up but that's no biggie.

I suspect it's slightly less substantial than the original but given that it only cost me $25 I would have to say I'm perfectly happy with it. I didn't see Steve's tip about reinforcing the mounting holes until a few minutes ago but will bear it in mind for the future...

Have a good one

Matthew
