Can't find the sensors? 900

I am trying to find the oxygen sensor, knock sensor, and air mass module on my 1995 960 sedan, to clean the grounds and replace the modules if necessary. But I'm not sure where they are located under the hood. Let me know guys so I can get my wife off my back for our low gas mileage!

First of all, have you checked to see if your ECU has any error codes posted? How low is your low mileage?

The oxygen sensor is screwed into the header pipe between the exhaust manifold and the CAT. (On my car just in front of the CAT.) In 96 a second oxygen sensor is located just after the CAT, but I don't think your car has a second one.

The knock sensors (2) are located under the intake manifold. Approximately at cylinders 2 & 5. I wouldn't mess with them unless your ECU has error codes that indicate a problem with them.

The Air Mass Module is the about 3.5 inch cylinderical part connected between the air filter and the rubber elbow that attaches to the throtle body. Again is there is a problem it should have set an error code in the ECU.

Check to see if the heated air thermostat in the bottom of the air cleaner is operable. It should be allowing fresh, unheated air in if its temperature is above about 70. Its cheap enough to just replace if there is any doubt. If hot air is being fed to the engine all the time it will hurt the mileage as well as kill the AMM eventually.

Around town with a heavy foot I only get about 18MPG. On trips to my parents house with 300 miles of interstate at about 80 I get about 24.

I have a 91 740 so I assume yours is similiar. O2 sensor is in the exhaust line near the cat. Look for a large spark plug looking device with a wire that runs up to a connection on the firewall. Knock sensor is bolted to the block under about intake runner #2. The temp sensor is right beside it on the left. You can find photos in the FAQ. THe AM sensor if I understand what you're asking is in the large bellows like hose that runs from the air cleaner to the throttle body. I think it is the air temperature sensor in newer cars.
