700 rear springs in a 240? 200

I've been looking out for some 240 wagon springs to put in
my 244 to help stiffen up the rear susp some. At the
junk yard I noticed a 700 wagon and the rear susp looked similar, will they fit?

Also, what's involved in removing rear springs? thanks!

They have different parts numbers, if that's an indication. I'd wait for the 200 wagon to show up. Be aware that there are two types of 240 wagon springs, "normal" and "heavy duty". The only difference between the normal sedan springs, the normal wagon springs and the HD springs is the wire diameter. If the wagon you find happens to have the HD springs (around 14 mm Ø), your sedan will have a very stiff rear end. Also, it will raise more than you'd want. Been there, pictures and comments in the Gallery section on my website.

The springs are quite easy to remove, as they are only fixed at the bottom. You will need to loosen the lower shock mounts as well, to drop the axle. Put your jack under the diff and lower slowly. A tip: The springs are fixed to the control arm by a disk with a bolt on it. This bolt will very easily come loose from the disk, as it is only a press fit. No hex head. So, keep two proper size machine bolts at hand, otherwise you might not be able to finish the job.

THANKS! This is the just the info I needed.... I'll wait for a 240 wagon to show up and it seems like i'll have no trouble getting the springs out at the yard. They're 10 bux a piece, seems fair! :-) Just to clarify, there are 3 thicknesses ? standard sedan, standard wagon and HD wagon? So, ideally I should look for standard wagon springs. thanks again for great reply! :-)

If the info I got is correct, these are the different dimensions:
Sedans: 12.7 mm
Wagon standard: 13 mm
Wagon HD: 13.4 mm

The springs I took from a junked wagon semed to be closer to 14 though, but they were admittedly covered with layers of rustproofing. Could also be that they were aftermarket ones with different specs than the above.

One word of caution: Be absolutely sure that you have lowered the axle enough to take absolutely all tension from the springs before you start dismounting the D-shaped disks. There is a lot of kick in them when compressed.

Good luck!

The 240 uses a pigtail at the bottom of the spring to keep it seated. Do 700 rear springs have that? My 244 rear springs are about 16" long. As I recall 700 springs are similar (all I remember is that they're long). 240 springs are 5" diameter. If the 700 springs don't have the pigtails, you can grab a pair of 240 rear upper spring seats to bolt to the trailing arms as a lower spring seat. My 240 currently has 11" long springs mounted this way, and at full droop they do not fall out, so anything longer than 11" shouldn't be a problem.
