Source for speedometer? -' 87-745 New from Volvo lists for $677!!! 700

I'm sure my salvage yard can fix me up but all the replacements wreak havoc with my record keeping due to different odometer readings. Maybe a good rebuilder someone can recommend? BTW it is the Yazaki and not sure if the VDO is a direct replacement?

Source for speedometer? -' 87-745 New from Volvo lists for $677!!! 700

Greetings,

I've 4 clusters for my 86 744 GLE which I collected trying to fix a bad speedo/odometer. I found out quickly that the Swiss and Japanese clusters plug in OK, but the speedo and other gauges may not be interchangeable at all.

I ended up settling for a replacement 86 Swiss speedo with a non-functioning odometer (a great gift from a fellow brickboarder). Better to know how fast I'm going, than how far I went. Best I could do with all these parts!

If you want a picture or description of any of these gauges, boards etc. send a note. I've got one 1986 and two 1987 clusters sitting out, one is being used as a clock in my office, with lights!

Cheers.

Greg

Are you sure it is the speedo and not a bad connection in the cluster. I went and picked up a another cluster at the salvage yard $60 and swapped in my speedo and it worked. Usually it is the printed board on the back of the cluster not the speedo that goes bad.

Hmmm! 700

That's certainly worth a look. The odometer works but the speedometer works intermittantly and I do have another cluster with a bad speedo, so for a couple hours labor I'll check it out, my labor is much cheaper than $677.
Thanks for the tip!

maybe just tightening the printed board attatching screws would help, fixed my fuel guage ; )

Last night I swapped the printed circuit and in the process found a loose screw on the speedometer attaching screws. Speedometer now works but I lost my OD light. Not a bulb problem! I just might swap back to the original printed circuit.
