Okay, I got stuck in a fairly good dump of snow last night. Vermont. Shoulda came home earlier but was late. No plows were out and the depth on roads was approaching 8 inches plus..but mostly other trucks or cars had rutted it somewhat so I kept going...made it to my steeper than average driveway and found no plow guy had made it to it yet.....the most steep part kept my Volvo down the driveway and I backed out to alternative parking spot ....then got stuck and even after digging around car in relative flat terrain and with Studded Snow tires... the ice and a small rut kept me immobile. Snow was bad enough school and my job were called off but I was a little bummed as I usually get around okay in winter..... if the plow drivers do their job. But since I was pretty dug out and had some studds left on rear tires...I was annoyed. I usually have more tools than this in back and maybe weight would have helped. My larger snowshovel broke... and then I had to use a wilderness backpack shovel...tedious. Some sand and chains probably would have gotten me out. In the morning plow guy helped me out and I am on the road again.
The worst tragedy of the evening was getting out of my car in the snow and accidently dragging my cell phone on it "umbilical" to the door jamb and having the door slam on it....It still works but display is toast..new cell phone needed.
But what do you Snow drivers suggest for 240s? Maybe bags of sand in rear? or lots of weight? and large snow shovel just in case? Tires on mine are Cooper studded snowtires and usually good going... there was glare ice under the very fine snow.....
got to admit at the time, kind of wished I had a Subaru, 4wd truck or SUV at the time. A kid in a new Isusu Amigo came by and offered assistance but I was already parked in a reasonalbly safe overnight spot... liked his cute rig. But I like my Volvo's mileage and no payments just fine too. Only I occasionally pay the "poor man's mortage" on this thing...like I was scheduled to get a new clutch this morning and called off the appointment...the mechanic wasn't there anyway with all the snow.
