rainy weather ,almost no acceleration and rough idle. 200 1990

Merry X mas Bricksters!
I noticed my car was idling rather roughly yesterday for a second or so.The weather was rather damp, rainy for the last few days...
We had to drive to a remote area ,narrow rough roads with melting ice, water holes and sand.As my car started to climb hills,i noticed there was poor acceleration. We managed to get to our destination and come back, but when i accelerated the car had almost no power.Sometimes the car would run fine a few minutes and suddenly return to sick mode.

Pulled codes, got 232(system compensating for too rich or too lean...)
I recently replaced my rpm sensor and 02 sensor and the car is automatic.
Searched the faq's ,but your input is wellcome between two eggnogs.

Sounds like bad plug wires or a cracked distributor cap.
Remove distributor cap with wires attatched and inspect for cracks or any other visable defect, or if it's more than a year old just replace it (with a new rotor of course).
I've had better luck with the Bosch cap rather than the cheap one that you can get anywhere.
If symptoms persist try to isolate cylinder that is misfiring.
A new set of wires may be in order.

Richard

I concur!
The new cap is a cheap troubleshootig first shot. If that doesn't fix it you have a'running spare'
The easiest way to check the plug wires in on a dark, damp night. You may see some arcing that isn't visible during daylight hours.

I agree.... 200 1990

...sounds like it is igntion related. Miene did this in spring...replaced cap & rotor, plugs, cleaned TB....checked all sensors...finally it turned out to be the wires. Got a set of german ones from my buddy, and the car idles and pulls real nicely!

Cheers,

Definitely the wires!!! Had that happen to my 940 TWICE!! It would miss on damp days and the first time a buddy of mine told me it was the wiring. I replaced them and sure enough where the wire is covered by the boot is where the break was. It took the damp to get it to misfire. The second time it did it about 2 years later I knew exactly where to look and sure enough the same problem and this time new lifetime wires did the trick again.
