97 960 idle racing, escape 900

Hi All
I have a '97 960 that at 6:30 this morning took to racing her engine to four grand. Got her shut down, but any attempts at restart went straight to race.
Isolated problem down to the idle air control solenoid by clamping the hose from it closed w/small needle nosed vise grips... Replaced the IAC solenoid. Fired her up.... Race city. There is some juice to the solenoid, as it does activate, at least to a degree, when ignition is on. Fuses check out OK w/ VOM.
Within the same time period, maybe five minutes earlier, I noticed that the tranny would not shift up to 4th. Later I find it will intermittently shift up above 60mph, when I let off on the throttle, but shift down if I get anywhere near 50 mph. The IAC problem started after I hit downshift to pass a truck. (Did pass the truck...) Help Help Help Please!!! Does anyone know which of the manuals might have the right info?
Thank you,
Doc J

Doc,

Is you Malfunction Indicator Light lit on the dash?

If so, do you have the ability to read the codes?

Hello
No, the malfunction indicator light is not on at all. Thank you, though,

I would get the manual for the fuel injection for your model. The one I have is for 960's up to 94. I looked at the section on the IAC and if yours is close to what is is in the manual I am looking at, then you might want to check the TP sensor. The TP(throttle position) sensor signals the CTP(closed throttle position) and then computes the WOT(wide open throttle) based on a given angle from the TCP. The ECM(engine control module) adjusts the IAC valve so the engine maintains the correct idle speed.

On an overrun with the throttle closed the ECM adjusts the IAC to the supply the engine with air to maintain the vacuum level.

I hope you find the problem.

Thank you
THe TP sensor is where I'm going next. THanks for the manual suggestion, as on looking through the list, I couldn't find reference to my problem.

I would suggest that you check the temp. switch. It may be sending back a signal that the car is -20 or so degrees. Good luck.

Good thought. This all happened only when the temp went to zero, and it didn't go above 15 yesterday.
