I made mine from ordinary soft iron and a chunk of pipe (that I laborously cut 'n filed to shape).

Tips? Use heavy stock. The first time I used my counterhold tool, the long arm began to bend. I reinforced it (shown on the sketch), and it works fine after that.

I think I used 1"x1/4" soft iron flat stock. Something bigger or harder would have been better.

I've made one but have yet to remove the starter. It's too damn cold.

Remove the starter, what are you talking about? 200

by using the counterhold tool, you don't need to remove the starter.

I agree, it is too damn cold out.

The "rope trick" (described in the FAQs) is a more weather-friendly alternative to removing the starter...

Don,

The car I am working on is my $400 junkyard car with a hole in the head (car not me). It came with a brand new radiator , unfortunatly they didn't replace the T Stat. Boom. It still ran though albiet smoking like crazy.

I want to pull the starter to clean up and inspect. This is a project car, to go along with my 1800ES, 245 SE & 745T. So I am not in a hurry to fix. Target date: Summer. I am not digging the rope trick, no reason why.
