This is probably covered somewhere, but after an hour of searching the brickboard, I came up with miscelaneous info but nothing concrete...

Want the flush glass, so are
- the mounting points for hinges the same?
- door dimensions same?
- latch striker mounting points compatable?

Or, simply, does a 21 year newer tailgate work?

Make sure you get the latch bits that mount to the body. With that, it's a bolt-in. If you want the 3rd brake light to work, get the wiring harnesses, too.

If you run the 3rd light off either of the brake lights it should work fine. You have no 'bulb out' system.

The only other issue is the rear washer. You'll wind up with your stock nozzle on the body and a 2nd nozzle on the 'gate. Your choice how to deal with that.
