240 front speaker wiring 200 1987

Hello all,

Here's my problem: I recently replaced my front door speakers. The speakers work great except one speaker is not "hitting" as hard as the other. I was unable to find a neg wire for one of the speakers. Is it possible that both speakers share the same neg wire? If so, will connecting both speakers to the same neg reduce the speakers' output? Also, if I can't resolve the problem this way I'm considering running new speaker wire--any advice on how to best fish the wire from the door through the rubber boot into the interior. I tried earlier and I couldn't see or feel where the wires entered the vehicle, especially the driver side next to the fuse box. Thanks

Hey Bob What is that b230fd engine? I was looking at buying a car and I know how the VIN #'s decode pretty well and since it was an YV1AX82blahblahblah the 82 stands for the b230fd. How is that different from the b230f?

When I pull the spkrs out of my front doors, the wire leads to the spkr terminals come out part way and are two separate leads encased in a slim plastic sheath/protector. The one with the smaller spade terminal is the ground and goes to the matching smaller lug on the spkr. (All very simple but easy to get crossed up.)

Only simple radios/stereos built long ago have a single common ground for left and right channels...you must have the proper connections to the stereo unit for the +ve and ground for left and right channels or you can fry a modern unit. The spkr wiring on both our 240's has a connector on each side, above the underdash pad, which joins the stereo unit wiring to the door spkr leads on that side. Wire colors coming from the stereo for the spkrs are yellow, and gray, and white, and yellow/gray...something like that..can't remember for sure. You'll know when looking at them - just don't mess with the other pair of wires with an identical connector also going into the right door - power lock wiring.

Before installing the F. door spkrs, run the window fully up and down while looking in the spkr hole and you can see potential interference with the wires. Route wires accordingly, then place spkr in position and hold lightly by hand while running window through its complete range of travel and feeling for any contact.

I have a 1986 240 DL and am having the same problem. I have removed the plastic panels by the fuse box and poked some wire through the door's rubber thing and looked for where it would come out and cant see anything. I tried to listed for it and it sounded like it was right behind the fuse panel so I don't know wut to do. I am running new wire for the DEI Viper 550.2 5.25" component set i got. I finally got one of the sides done and mounted the tweeter on my dash. I have never had tweeters before so it might not be the best place for them but I will see wut my ears think after I find where these dang speaker wires go!!! If you have any other more detailed instructions about where to find them plz plz say so cuz that would help so much!

      Thanks.

You need to have a Positive and negitive lead for the speakers to work.

Also, don't get them mixed up or your speakers will be out of phase. Double check your polarity.
