I'm excited to report that I've added a old Volvo to the family - a 1980 242 GT!

The car needs a lot of love (body work, paint, engine rebuild, etc.) but I plan to completely restore it to near original condition.

To do this I need photos. Interior, exterior, everything. Only photos of unmodified GTs please.

I'm sure someone reading this is a GT fanatic that knows where I can find lots of good images.

Thanks in advance and I'll post images on my GT during each step of the restoration. The process will be slow (money is tight) but this GT is the car I've been waiting for and I'm really looking forward to every aspect of restoring and eventually driving it :)

look on e-Bay for original Volvo sales literature, too... I remember back in '80 I had just bought a Saab 99 when my boss bought a 244 from the same dealership. They let him take a 242 GT for a weekend to help him make up his mind, and I remember him showing me the brochure. Bet someone out there has one for sale!

I don't have any pics, but I've been doing some research myself in hopes of a future 242Gt project.

i checked ebay and no luck so far but i'll keep checking. the link above is pretty good. definitely some nice GTs.

i could really use a good photo of the dashboard and instrumentation. is there anyone with a GT that wouldn't mind taking a pic of their dashboard/instrumentation and emailing or posting the photo?

You could try getting in touch with "Kyle242GT" directly if your post doesn't "pan out"- he's got an '80 GT. Also has some pics in the webpage listed in his profile.

From what I can tell, the GT cluster is essentially the same as a "regular" 240 cluster, with the addition of a tach in the middle spot. What does yours look like?

A semi-related question I have: In the pics I've seen, GTs had speedos that read up to 85- Yet, my lowly '78 244 DL reads up to 130. What's up with that, I wonder?
