I have a set of 5.5 steel rims off my 73 164 can i put 195 60 r 15 on these rims. It just seems that these rims seem to have a lip on them, and the last 3 digits in the part # is 001 not ooo. I know that this was part of a conversation several weeks ago, but i'm not sure what the end result was. Thanx Adrian

I have a bad habit of forgetting them wheel numbers myself... But I'm pretty sure that the ones ending in 001 are the 5"ers... I looked at some narrow wheels yonder out back, and they all end in the 001. I think what you might need is those ending in 010 or possibly 000.

You coudl probably still get away with 195/65-15, but I wouldn't go with the lower profile 60 series...

If your rims are indeed 5.5", the 195 width tires shoudl work fine. Were I you, I'd up up it from a 60 series to a 65 series though. that'll be more appropriate for your speedo.

IF you've got these rims on hand, just take one of the old tires off... then you can measure to be sure. SOme of them rims also have the width stamped in on the inside where the air goes.

I'm using 195-75/15 on stock wheels on both my 122 wagon and 164.
Seem to work fine.

Look into the tire you're considering ... it should tell you the acceptable rim width that the particular tire can safely mount onto. Most of the manufacturers will tell you on the website - check there first!

Anyways 195/60/15 is smaller than the stock, so your speedo will be off.
