O2 sensor and Beige stuff in the dipstick tube S90-V90 1997

Yesterday I was under the hood of my wifes car and poking around found lots of creamy beige stuff on the dipstick again. After taking the dipstick in and out a few times, wiping it off each time, I managed to get most of the gunk off and saw that the oil looked good. After starting the engine, I pulled the dipstick out and saw a good stream of smoke coming out. Now I'm starting to figure that this is the source of the gunk. Question is why is it coming out here? Where is the pcv valve on this motor since the crankcase pressure should be relieved though that valve and not through the dipstick.

Second question. Using my nifty 88 buck code scanning/analyzer program, I can see that the #1 O2 sensor is functioning normally, showing a sort of sine wave curve but that the #2 sensor is flat. One of the other screens also now shows it as a fault. Where is this sensor located and does anyone know approximate cost? Engine seems to be running well all told specially since it just went over 166k. Thanks in advance for any help.

Your car suffers from (1) short trips causing condensation on cold engine surfaces and (2) possibly a clogged flame trap. See the 700/900 FAQ for details on the latter.

The #2 sensor is after the converter. Get another at the dealer or FCPGroton.com

I'm not sure that short trips alone would cause this. I drive less than 3 miles each way for work (right downtown Baltimore), never over 30 (OK maybe 35,40 max, in a very sort burst between city traffic lights) and I've never suffered from the dreaded beige dipstick sydrome, at least the last time I checked it. While this is not as ideal as a jaunt of 55-65 for a time, the car does reach normal operating temperature in pretty short order, even on cold days here. I'd estimate at about the halfway mark I have full heat and a temp gauge pointing straight up. Of course I drive like a maniac in those three miles....

I checked the flame trap and it doesnt look like it is clogged. My wife puts enough miles on the car so I dont think it really gets that many short trips (its got 166k on it and its a '97). I did read about an oil breather box, and wonder if that might be a problem. Perusing the faq does not specifically mention it or where it is located. I should probably renew my aldata subscription since this car wont leave me alone.
