Really simple.
Just cut the armored cable under the dash and attach a new wire to the wire in the center of the cable to go the positive terminal on the new coil.

Bad news: armored coild are made of unobtanium. Alternate option: A blue bosch coil plus a new ignition switch. I made it on my car, see http://www.volvoadventures.com/121spec.html

Write up of what? Rewire of what? Are you trying to install something, repair something, or upgrade something? Has the coil gone bad? Ignition switch funky?

Confused,

John Parker´s recomendation is a best approach. This way, you no need to adapt a new ignition key on your dash panel. Try first to make and test the coil change before put a MSD ignition box on board (one step at time help with debbuging).

Prevent the risk of fumes (from the engine compartment) into the passenger area, please, close the hole (open after remotion of the original coil) with some tin plate.

A second trought: If you only need to put a cable to the (+) pole of the coil (by now into the armored cable), I vagely remember a past post on this board about you can take the coil (+) from a borner on the aft of the ignition key mechanism. Please, fellow volvofans with more experience on this, can be add some light on it?. If I remember right, you needs can be related with take a (-) and a (+) connection from the coil to the MSD box.

Cheking on my notes folders, I found some info (originally published on http://vclassics.com/archive/cranprn.htm, available on 2002, unavailable now).

It is a tech note signed by Christopher Doyle about installing a Crane ignition box on a Amazon with armored coil DISCLAIMER: USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK(I rewrite only the relevant parts):

"Obtain 2 diodes 1N4007 (...from Radio Shack)...
Solder suitable wire onto each diode lead, so you´ve got 2 lenghts of wire with a diode soldered on the middle. Use pliers as a heat sink to prevent damage to the diodes.

Connect one diode wire to the selenoid on the starter motor (12 V with key in "Start"); the silver ring painted on the diode should be farthest from the starter.

Connect the other diode wire to 12 V source (12 V when key is in the on position), again the silver ring pointing away from the source.

Attach both free diode wires to the red wire coming from de Crane XR700 box. I would recommend supporting the diodes with a rigid casing (..electric tape wrapped around a plastic stick)as the leads are fragile.

... the red wire from the tach is now attached to the top (-) and only post of the coil.

... received above instruction from Allison (former manufacturer). It was a fairly simple way to avoid coil replacement and or cutting the armored cable."

Of course, if your coil are shooted, please, dismiss it.
