A/C Recirc. vacuum diaphram valve removal/installation 900

Does anyone have instructions on how to change the A/C vacuum valve for the recirc. flapper on a '95 960. The valve is wedged between the firewall and the recirc. box.

Thanks,
j.p.

It's a b*tch to get out, and an even bigger one to get in. We got our old one out, but never got the new one back in. Tried everything we could think of (aside from cutting things up), finally gave up. May try again this spring just because I hate to have to give up. Call me stubborn or persistent.

If you get it in, let us know the double secret password.

HI guys, I have the same problem with a 93, 960. I hope it is the same. I just got into the digital age with a camera. I'll take some pictures to ease the amount of explanations. I am not happy that I have to do it, it is my first time inside the 960 dash. I consider myself lucky, after 6, 960's this is my first problem that requires removal of the whole dash panel. I was also thinking of replacing the evap. and heater core. Can you think of anything else that might need to be serviced or modified or just replaced. The car has 247,000 miles on it. It is in such good shape I can't seem to get rid of it.

"Can you think of anything else that might need to be serviced or modified or just replaced."

The dual acting vacuum bellows on the driver's side has been as big a problem as the recirc. bellows on these models. For another $34, you can eliminate that possibility, while your in there. It's on the drivers side.

Look at the 900/700 FAQ. There's pictures and everything. Talk to the service guys at Swedish Engineering, one of the Brickboard's banner ads. I did this last summer and did some of the installation work upside down using a mirror to position it and put the retaining nuts on. Yes, the bulk of the front dash, console, radio, glove box and ducts are removed to accomplish this. I must also admit to resurrecting the four letter vocabulary I had previously thought sufficiently buried. Eventually there was duct tape involved. I justified it's use because there is, after all, ducts in the area. It worked and the A/C works the way it was advertised. I'll pray for you. By the way, the gents at Swedish Engineering take about 3 hours to accomplish this. You might want to check with your local mechanic or the dealer and get the book time and do a cost benefit analysis. In hindsight at 3 hrs and $75 per hour, I'd pay the $225 and have someone else do it and keep the aforementioned ugly vocabulary buried. Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from bad decisions.
