this is fun...a canadian perspective 120-130

In Canada we have a store called Canadian tire. It's a general hardware store that evelved from seling car parts(www.canadiantire.com)into a large chain of stores selling home, auto, and sporting goods. The kind of store any male would be happy to get lost in, but one that no self respecting car nut would admit buying parts from(though we all do at one time or another). to make this long story shorter, the people behind the counter are generaly wet behind the ears if you know what I mean( no offense to those competent poeple that do work thier as well, you know your who you are). In my younger years it was considered fun to have the person search for an upper rad hose for a vw bus(the beatle being to obvious), or if the person was particularly astute, a rad cap for a chevy corvair... Amazingly they were nearly always able to find the part, and had it in stock!!! I once purchaced a set of rear springs for my chevette(one of life's little errors, excuse me please). I went home and installed the springs that were an exact match to my springs(except for wire diameter, I later found out). When I lowered the car to the ground I found that it had the rear end jacked up much higher than it should be. In thier books the chevette had the same springs a a Cadilac cimmeron(another of life's little errors). I returned the springs and exchanged them for springs for a pontiac acadian(chevette clone), the counter person swore that they would not fit because his book said so!

Merci

Yvan(now chevette-less)

I'll tell you what, could definitely use a new air flow meter on my '67 122, , also the trip computer keeps setting off the side curtain airbags. is this a common problem for all '67 model years?

cheers

It is a lot worse in the 67 model year than the earlier models.
Seems like the extra sturdy muffler chain helps a lot.

This was funny. I went to jiffy lube to change my oil and I never leave my cars sight. The guy changing the oil said I needed a new belt tensioner becuase the one I had was bad. I looked at the guy and told him the car didn't even have one and that he was halucinating. I guess jiffy lube teaches there mechanics to lie to make mroe money. Bastards

The 122s I have had all had 2 belt tensioners, one an idler pulley attached
to or near the top of the head to tension the AC belt, and the other an arm
from a little lower on the front of the head that mounts to the top of the
generator to tension the water pump/fan/generator belt. The one for the
AC does have a bearing in it (which can be replaced for about $5) but I
don't see how the other one can wear out in «normal» use.

I guess the proof of the pudding would be to tell him "I'm from Missouri.
Show me!!"

just semantics... 120-130

...the guy probably checked the belt tension, and feeling it to be on the loose side, automatically said "belt tensioner"...figuring the car has one as most modern cars do (and by tensioner, a device with a spring which keeps the tension CONSTANT is typically meant)...and our cars clearly don't have those...only provisions for making fixed ADJUSTMENTS (and I wouldn't call those tensioners either, sorry George)...I think it was more a semantics thing than the guy trying to sell you something you don't need...Batalia needs to edumacate him!

Cheers
