Plastic 700 1992

Greetings!

A question similar to my water spotting question (I'm still working on that. Bon Ami works, but slowly). What have folks used to restore the plastic on bumpers and moldings on the exterior? All the plastic there has faded to various shades of grey.

Cheers!
Barra

I use Mothers Back to Black. Works great lasts for months. I use it on all the my black trim and windshield wipers. Looks great! I got it at autozone or pepboys. The thing I like about it is that it absorbs into the plastic. It does leave a kinda oily feel to the bumpers(which can attract dust), but just wipe them down with a clean cloth and vwola! clean again.

Green scrubpad with water followed up with vinyl protectant. Guaranteed to look like new.

If they are really bad and do not benefit from the various black protectorants (Black Again, Armor-All, etc), I would get a can of Duplicolor Bumper and Trim paint and paint them. I did my 240 bumpers over a year ago and they still look great. Just make sure they are clean of any protectorant, mask off the surrounding area and put a few light coats on. One can will do fron/back bumpers and can be found at Autozone, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto, etc.

I find that Auto Glym's 'Bumper Care' (A green viscous liquid) works extremely well in restoring and giving long term protection to bumpers, trim and weather seals.

It does exactly what it says on the label!

If you use a plastic(green) scrub pad with BonAmi to remove most of the ozidized plastic before treating it, your bumper and other black plastic parts will work better. Also, before waxing your car, treat the plastic first, that will keep the wax from soaking into the plastic and making it difficult to get off when buffing the wax.
