cracked distributor base 900 1993

Hi,

cracked the distributor base trying to install into a VX cam in my 93 940 B230FD. I had the slots lined up, but it didn't slide into place, what am I doing wrong?

Sorry to hear about the distributor prablem. When you get that fixed, please post the performance results of the VX cam in your 940. I'm thinking about the same thing in my '93 940.

This might sound crazy but i was having the same problem last week. It was cold in the barn (<40). I put the 100w trouble light next to the cam end for a while and was then able to get the distributer back in OK.

Last time I did this a couple of years ago it was summer and I remember the distributer going out and in much easier.

    cheers,
    chuck

Are you sure the drive dog was correctly aligned, bearing in mind that the slot is offset from centre?

The next possibility is that the large "O" ring trapped as it pased into the hole in the head.

Try to insert the distributor with a combined rocking and turning motion with the "O" ring well lubricated,
at the same time slightly twist the rotor arm back and forth and you should feel the drive dog drop into
    the slot in the cam.

You must be able to push the distributor fully into the head by hand, you must NOT try to force it into
place with the bolts, as you have discovered, this is guaranteed to break something expensive.

      Thanks, Colin.

sure enough, I had the rotor pointed up, to the number 1 terminal on the 'OUTSIDE' of the cap, rather than pointed down to the terminal on the inside of the cap, so that was wrong, as the distributor drive slot certainly is offset from the centerline of the cam. It slid in and fit well this time. Really appreciate the help.
Got the car together, and it's running well.

      Thanks,

      Landon
