cracked distributor base 900 1993

Are you sure the drive dog was correctly aligned, bearing in mind that the slot is offset from centre?

The next possibility is that the large "O" ring trapped as it pased into the hole in the head.

Try to insert the distributor with a combined rocking and turning motion with the "O" ring well lubricated,
at the same time slightly twist the rotor arm back and forth and you should feel the drive dog drop into
the slot in the cam.

You must be able to push the distributor fully into the head by hand, you must NOT try to force it into
place with the bolts, as you have discovered, this is guaranteed to break something expensive.
