Just Turned Over 183,000....Now the Trouble Starts??? 200

Firstly, I would like to thank EVERYONE who has helped me to this point. I have enjoyed owning and working on this Beast (1990 245 Wagon).

This morning I noticed that the Starter or Solenoid was sticking (kept hearing something after the engine was running.) Would hear it occasionally but today it did it three times in a row. Sounded like a light grinding sound for about 1 second after the engine started.

Secondly, I was driving in an alleyway (to my garage) and heard a faint sound from the right rear of the car (had to roll down the windows.) I know what a bad Seal sounds like (had a volkswagon with one). This sounds more like dirty brakes, except the brake pedal is not being depressed. It is a screaching sound...Very faint. Not all the time. It seems after the car gets warmed up (driving a few miles) the sound is not present.

What am I in for now? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Todd :-)

Todd,
All belts are correct tightness ? If the starter is hanging up, I doubt that the noise would be slight. Could be several things going on up front. Have a friend start it while you listen.

The rear "dirty brake" sound may be a brake caliper that is hung up, and your listening to your brake pad being ever so slightly ground down.

My 89, 245 is about to see 241K, and other than general maintenance, no problems. The finest of all the Bricks I've owned.

Just some thoughts.
