240 dash cracking/solutions 200

My 1988 240 has always had 2 very small cracks in the invisable part of the dash. Now all of the sudden I have a huge crack across the top, across from the stering wheel. I can get a good used dash for about $90.00 from my local pick and pull. I'm not shure if it would be worth my effort, in fear of a new dash cracking just like my old one. But maybe not. I have previously removed the cluster, stereo, glove box, and switch console where the heater controls are before. How much more work would it be beyond this to replace the whole dash? Is it hard to get it to sit level?

Thanks and Happy Bricking!

Dash Preservation?? 200

Thanks to a fellow Brickboarder, I have a crack free dash lying here on my living room floor. When I finally get it in the car, I would like it to remain that way. Besides the usual, sunshades, tinted windows and a dashmat, what can I use to preserve the new dash? Armor All is not an option.

Dash Preservation?? 200

it seems to me that in preserving plastics is to prevent the exterior surface from shedding molecules through oxidation as well as retaining flexibility and finish

i have looked at it from the approach of introducing a petroleum product which has a higher flexibility than the plastic, however silicone based products seem to have quite a bit of caché

i use a rag saturated with vaseline and smear it into all the grain of the plastic suface the lighly buff - a moderate luster is achieved

Your new dash may crack any day too. Just get a dash mat at a fraction of the cost and it will remain neat - as a bonus your shades are not going to slide across either.

I agree with Daveshan. I thought it was going to be a real moose, but it turned out to be the easist part of my heater core replacement. just some screws across the front, a couple bolts on each side and Viola! Its held in place by rubber sockets that are a snap to line back up. I'd advise anyone to try going in through the blower housing from the top and leave all that other stuff alone! Talk softly and carry a little Dremel! Inuse duct tape over silicone seal to patch mine back together. Its my little secret no one else will ever see.

It's about a 2 hour job start to finish. Check my pages for pics and hints.
It's so easy that if I ever have to do a blower motor I guarantee the dash will come out and I'll be able to sit in comfort to work on the unit.

remembered your site's OD relay repositioning this weekend and i altered the relocation
i rerouted the wires from the selector to the Left side of center console, grounded at lower console secure point (big phillips screw like previous mounting ground - but lower left instead of upper right) so now it sits above the floor vent with some other relay (black case - not sure which one that is)
