turbo rebuild 200 1982

Does anyone know what it takes to rebuild a turbo from a 1982 242 and if so where to get the rebuild kit.

Check out www.turbocity.com, or ( 714-639-4933). They give you all sorts of options, from seal replacement kits to send in yours/ swap rebuild, to new. Prices ( two years ago) were decent. Very helpful as well.

On my 940 cost about $230.00 to buy rebuilt one (you send the old one to them).

Don't think I'd consider trying to rebuild one (if you can even get a kit). With the very high rpm balancing and bearings are critical.

I was going to do this but found a whole remanufactured center cartridge for $125. They are up to $135 now and I'm not sure she still sells Volvo Garretts. Mine's been in for a year now with no problems. If you start taking compressor and turbine wheels off your CHRA, you've got to be careful because they are balanced as a unit at the factory. I've heard if you put it all back together just right it will remain balanced but don't have any personal experience with this.

I haven't shopped with this company before, and I don't know what's included in the repair kit. I have the links bookmarked, though, just in case.

Turbo Repair Kit
Turbocharger

Good luck and keep us posted.

Take care,
Keith
