I have a Haynes manual now for my 86' 240GL wagon and it seems to lack some of the detail I want, like tranny and rear differential views. Does the Bentley show these views as well as other, more detail diagrams and pics??? Thanks!

IMO, the Haynes is better than nothing—the Bentley is waaaaay better than Haynes. I have both early and later Haynes, but the Bentley has been my bible since 1990. Better organization, illustrations, indexing, and a few errors too. But I wouldn't part with it.

I have an Error List started, but it's been a low-priority thing. Here is what I have so far. If you or anyone else has input, I'll work it in. My intent was to go thru my Bentley and make a Post of what I've found, then se where it goes from there. So you've started the ball rolling... Bruce


BENTLEY ERRORS:
IMO, although it has a few errors, the Bentley manual is the one to have. Mine is dog-eared from 13 years of use. (My Haynes books are like new)

214-2 — Fig. 3. Shows front of camshaft. Text refers to "rubber plug" which is at the Rear.
214-4 — Three erroneous Cautions about valve-to-piston interference.
214-5 — One erroneous valve/piston caution.

215-4 — Step 9 text ("pull") disagrees with Fig. 9 caption ("push").
215-5 — Step 7. "See Fig. 11" should conclude Step 6 (reference to guide plate).
215-5 — Tightening Torque stage 2 should be 60° (not 90°)
215-5 — Fig. 11 Cam shaft sprocket should be Crankshaft

I have never bought from him, so can't say either way, but he's got a lot of manuals.

Skip Albright usually deals in Volvo "Green" Service manuals and he is good at that. Perhaps he handles others, I dunno.

Yesterday I saw two or three Bentley manuals on eBay. The then-price was under $40. They are available new from some of the Brickboard advertisers, too.

I use both Haynes and Bentley when doing a not-very-often job.
