Pretty sure i'm gonna go pick up an '82 242GLT tomorrow, but have a curious question. It has single rectangle headlights. Not the ones from '86 and newer, but ones that i've only seen once or so before. I don't have pictures, but am curious if these are original for the car? or an upgrade later?
Any help, as always, is appreciated!

If they are e-codes, make sure they are from a left hand drive market. Aussie/British (ie; right hand drive lenses) are useless in the US. Also, check to see if the headlight wiring has been upgraded, rather necessary for e-codes.
Do they look like this?

Yup, look exactly like that. Without the flat hood though...
How do i check if they're from here or there? I drove it in the dark last night, and the lights seemed to liight things up on the proper side of the street.... What about the wiring? How do i determine that?
P.s. Please say that the '71 D-35 in your signature is a Martin, right?

I did research when I installed E-code lights on my 240. My understanding is upgrading the wiring to the relay system Don mentioned is only necessary if you use high-intensity bulbs (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). If you use the standard lamps, which are somewhere around 55- or 60-watts, you can keep the wiring as it is, which is what I've done to my car.
One wiring change I did have to do is re-route the three wires that plug into the lamps. The old wiring arrangement was designed for the quad sealed-beams that originally came with the American 240s. A local import auto store had an adaptor that worked, but you can re-arrange the wires yourself so the low-beams and high-beams work as they should.
I originally bought mine because they looked so cool, but I love them more because the lighting is so much of an improvement.

Yes, the D-35 is a Martin, sold my first car, an MGA, to buy it. Even went and toured the factory while they were building it. It's a toss-up, which would be worth more now, the car or the guitar, but the guitar is a lot more dependable ;-)
There has been lots of stuff posted about upgrading headlight wiring. Search the archives with regard to headlight relays. They're used to route power from the battery directly to the headlights without sending it through the light switch.

Damn that's a fine lookin' car Don.
I'm considering adding those to the 245T I'll be getting soon.
BTW the picture I used as an example, ain't my car- I just looked through the Gallery for a likely candidate showing the lights. I WISH it was mine!

Thanks Rob. She was my 50th birthday present to myself. I haven't had this much fun with a toy since my first slot car set ;-)

A US model car should have 4 rectangular headlights. All GLT/Turbo models were fitted with this nose.
If it has single headlights, it would have to be either a European model, or have had European lights fitted- not a bad thing, as the H4 halogens offer greater light output.
Ought to looklike this pic.

Yeah, the e-codes were a 240 option in Canada. A minirity of cars have them up there.

are you sure they're an option up here in Canada? If so, that's pretty cool, but I've seen a lot of volvos up here living here for four years, and I have yet to see ANY with E-codes. And that includes a lot of graveyards and such. If they were an option, that's pretty sweet!

Yeah they were an option in Canada, but very expensive, like the LSD, so they are quite rare. I have been hunting for a set for a couple of years.
