Ignition problem 200

I am trying to repair a 1978 264 GL. My car died shortly after all the dash warning lights came on and I have not been able to start it since. I assumed that the ignition module attached to the back of the ignition switch was the cause, but I replaced this module and it made no difference. The iginition switch mechanism appears to be mechanically sound (key turns shaft to module). I was able to kill the engine lights by giggling the key once, but again the switch mechanism key-to-module seems to be sound.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know this response is delayed but if your still having problems e-mail me. I currently own a 79 264Gl & 79 262C do I'm kind of a PRV engine guru. Take Care!

Ignition problem 200 1978

I have a 1978 264. When the engine stalls all the dash board lights are on. The reasons why the engine will not restart could be many. One time the problem was simply that one of the fuses burned out. Check the fuses. Look at fuses 5 and 7 . Question : Does the starter turn the motor ?

Assuming the starter engages and your headlights come on, the first thing to check would be the fuses and then the fuel pump relay. Is it clicking when you turn the key on? When was the last time you resoldered the relay? After that, then you do the spark plug test to tell if the problem is ignition-related or fuel-related. Once you determine that, you go from there.

Even though you have '78 you can go to the FAQ list for 700-900 to get instructions on how to test for spark, and a good testing sequence to figure out what your problem is. Just don't go replacing things on a guess, it's more fun to play the slots in Vegas....
