Pics of the goodies from the junk yard 200 1985

Heres the Front armrest ,dyed and mounted, in the car

Here's the pet gate installed, I still need the clips that hold it to the roof.

The "new" map pockets(well the drivers side anyway)And the old one on the ground below it. The old passenger side one broke in half upon removal.

The "new" tailgate cover, and below that is what I had made to cover the opening before i had this "new" cover, a sheet of aluminium, cut to fit the hole.

Thanks for looking,

not sure about the older Volvo's but mine had holes under the carpet, jsut below the console(where 86+ seat belts bolt to). I just took the bolt i got with the arm rest and screwed them in.

Idea for other goodies from the junk yard 200 1985

Dan -

The 245 dome lights beat all hell out of those found in 244s or 242s. Get AMAP from the yard, go for eBay.

If you get some, email me and I'll try to explain how I have installed one in ALL of my 244s. They produce better light and the do not break and hang down from the headliner. Takes a special piece to do the installation.

Grab fuses (for yourself) and relays, too. On the relays, note where they are located, and get the base, too. Cut the wires as long as you can, up to 6 inches. Color code and location are helpful in identifying what relay it is.

On the 1986+ 240s there is an added headlight relay that is unusual, as it is a DPST switch. Most are SPST or SPDT. It's a good one for installing the relay and direct wire system to brighten the 1986+ headlights. The relay is above the driver's toe. 5-prong cube type.

Another retro-fit needing a special relay is the dome light delayed cut-off that is stock on the GL models, not the DLs, AFAIK.

Nice pics, BTW. Hope you didn't get too dirty doing all that. Got gloves?

Regards,

Bob

240 sedan dome light upgrade. 200 1985

To properly explain it, I'll need to learn how to make and post pictures. I have an El Cheapo digital camera, but haven't really tried using it for internet pix.

The key to the upgrade is using the mounting brackets from a Radio Shack wall plate type co-ax jack. The have tapped holes 4-40, and have a useful shape.

The 245 dome light has holes on each side for mounting into the roof. In on hole I put a small piece cut from the RS bracket, screwed in tight with a 4-40x1/4inch RH machine screw. Makes like a tab sticking out from the side ofn the light frame about 1/4 inch. When installed, the tab goes up inside the headliner on the rear side.

The front side is the tricky one. That will need the picture for best description. I use another piece from the RS bracket, but not a flat piece. It's cut and bent so that when screwed on tight, there is a bend up that is tight against the vertical side of the frame, keeping the piece in place while tightening the 4-40 machine screw.

Also, the 245 light is designed with the mounting being the ground, and that doesn't work on the sedan. Takes a little ingenuity to get the ground hooked up. It's necessary for the "Always on" switch position to work.

Not much more can I add tonight. Language lobe of brain has issued a "going to sleep" warning.

Later,

Bob
