240 sedan dome light upgrade. 200 1985

To properly explain it, I'll need to learn how to make and post pictures. I have an El Cheapo digital camera, but haven't really tried using it for internet pix.

The key to the upgrade is using the mounting brackets from a Radio Shack wall plate type co-ax jack. The have tapped holes 4-40, and have a useful shape.

The 245 dome light has holes on each side for mounting into the roof. In on hole I put a small piece cut from the RS bracket, screwed in tight with a 4-40x1/4inch RH machine screw. Makes like a tab sticking out from the side ofn the light frame about 1/4 inch. When installed, the tab goes up inside the headliner on the rear side.

The front side is the tricky one. That will need the picture for best description. I use another piece from the RS bracket, but not a flat piece. It's cut and bent so that when screwed on tight, there is a bend up that is tight against the vertical side of the frame, keeping the piece in place while tightening the 4-40 machine screw.

Also, the 245 light is designed with the mounting being the ground, and that doesn't work on the sedan. Takes a little ingenuity to get the ground hooked up. It's necessary for the "Always on" switch position to work.

Not much more can I add tonight. Language lobe of brain has issued a "going to sleep" warning.

Later,

Bob
