So i get in the '82 GLT this morning, crank it over, and it starts for a second but ends with a pop kind of sound, similar to back firing through a carb. It stopped running when this happened. I started it again and it started running just fine, but a bit rough. It felt like it was maybe running on 3 cylinders? I turned it off again and went under the hood looking for something to stick out at me. Everything seemed fine, wires, belts, etc... I couldn't get it to run right, and being late for work already, i closed her up and ran to the DL to get to work, where I am now.
Therefore, i've had NO chance to check into this, but it's bugging me as i sit here looking at the board at work.
Any suggestions as to where i should start looking when i get home?
The only things i can think of would be the cam timing maybe is off now? or an injector died? Both of these i don't have much experience with, so maybe i'm totally off on that.
ANY help is great!
THanks everyone!

SO ya, i guess i jumped the gun a little bit, and started thinking about the big stuff before thouroughly checking the small stuff. Turns out that when i pulled the #3 wire off the plug, it continued to run it's same crappyness, whereas the others increased the roughness. I took a plug wire off the other 240 and put it in the place of the #3 wire, and all ran smooth again.......
I'll be going to pick up some new wires tomorrow.............

Ok. So i went out there after work (i'm at home now with the car) and tried a bunch of vacuum hoses to make sure they're all on there, and as far as i can tell, they are. As i was starting it various times to see if i had it licked, it "backfired" once more, this time louder. Fortunately, it didn't worsen the roughenss.
I'm thinking now it might be my injectors? I can grab them by the hoses and wiggle them back and forth a little bit. is that normal? or do i need new seals? I'll post this question under a new thread as well, to see if i can get more responses.
Any more help is helpful as always!
Thanks again everyone.

Heya John,
I've got an 81 245 GL, and I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Just because it's fuel injected doesn't mean it can't backfire. When you get a chance to check it again, take a good look at the hoses. There's a fixture that bolts on to the valve cover that sort of sits between it and the injector manifold. It has a couple larger diameter hoses that run on to it, one from above and one from below. When your exact situation happened to me, the bottom hose had blown loose due to a backfire (where was the backfire? good question... and one I don't know the answer to). I wish I had a digital camera tto take a pic...
Anyways, hope that helps.

"it starts for a second but ends with a pop kind of sound, similar to back firing through a carb."
It probably was backfire. May be because of lean fuel mix. Check for additional air entry from holes or loose hoses.
"i closed her up and ran to the DL to get to work"
Did it run better when warm?

Sorry to not be too clear. The car is fuel injected, so it wasn't a backfire through a carb, but possibly elsewhere?
I haven't had a chance to even warm it up, i took the other car to work now.
It's ran perfect since i got it a couple weeks ago, and this has been the first sign of trouble.
