Fellow Brickster's...
After spending way too much time, and approaching the limit of frustration, changing the fuel filter on my 89 245. I would like to put the fuel filter back on the firewall (where it belongs). It seems that it should be just a matter of rerouting the fuel line(s). Anyone have experience doing this....thoughts....pros / cons..????
I may be missing something, as to why the fuel filter was relocated to such an ungodly place. Bad enough the fuel pump is there, let alone the filter.
Thanks,
Al

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of replacing the fuel filter in my '89 245 (in an attempt to solve a stalling problem), but have never done it before. There is a detailed explanation of this procedure in the 7xx/9xx FAQ, but I don't know if it applies to 240's as well. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Based on what I've read, it seems a bit involved, to say the least. Thanks.

Mark,
Haven't read the 7XX / 9XX info on fuel filter replacement, but they should be the same. In most respect, other than body and interior, they are the same.
Best advice...lots of PBBlaster....and tons of patience. Be prepared to fight all those years of road grime that insist on clinging to the fuel pump, fuel filter, and housing. Oh, I soaked the filter with Blaster and pushed it out of the retaining strap.
Philvo said he uncliped the works and worked on the ground.
Good luck.

Al,
I think they relocated it for safety reasons,if it explodes it's not in front of your chest.
I changed mine and ended up undoing the clips so I could work on it on the ground.
Take care,Phil

Phil,
It was all the road gunk and corrosion that got to me. I can change out the 84's in about 15- 20 minutes. No hassels, no fighting the accumalated garbage.
To top it all off...the new copper washers wouldn't seat. They kept spraying fuel like mulip[le squirt guns....both ends. Going against all that is correct...I used the originals No leaks...go fiqure !!
I think I'll copy the 84's fuel lines and mount on the fire wall. Guess thats why it's called the fire wall !?
