Transmission 900

I have an 1991 940 turbo wagon. I usually only drive my car on the weekend due to being in college. I was about to drive it this past weekend and out of the blue it will not shift out of first gear as soon as I started to drive it, Reverse works as well. The fluid is at the operation point. I just had it serviced about 4000 miles ago. The car has about 150,000 miles on it. I was hoping someone would have some things too look for or what it could possible be. If the transmission needs repairs how much should I look to spend, I have never needed a volvo transmission repair or replaced. The other problem is I am moving from Pa to Minnesota on the 21th, so now time is a huge factor. If anyone could be of help I would be greatfully thankful.

As noted, it is almost certainly the kickdown cable. Take it to a local independent Volvo shop, where they will either untangle or replace the kickdown cable. The part runs about $75 or so, labor is another hour or two. You do NOT need a new transmission or an "overhaul" which is what the local tranny shops will try to sell you.

More information in the 700/900 FAQ under "features" button above.

It sounds like the kickdown cable either became entangled in the bellcrank for the accelerator or is siezed in the outer covering. it is also possible for the cable to wrap itself around the upper left nut of the throttle housing, this comes from being adjusted too loosely. Good luck!!!!
