Hi Guys:
A couple years ago I replaced the antenna on my 87 740,because the internal plastic cable broke. At the time I replaced the whole antenna (mast and motor) because the place I got it from (Upstate NY) told me it wud be easier for me to do... I spent $85.00 on the used antenna and 2 years later
I have the same problem. I know I can just replace the mast,since I hear the motor going (besides I have another motor from my original).
QUESTION: How difficult is it to replace the mast?
I assume the replacement mast sold by these internet sites includes the retractable antenna,internal plastic cable and the the tube where the all thing goes. AM I RIGHT?

SAVE THE BRAIN DAMAGE. I DISCONNECTED MY MAST, BOUGHT A SIMPLE ATTACHMENT,
RUBBER TYPE (ANTENNAE) THAT GOES OVER THE LAST SECTION (TAKE OFF THE LITTLE
METAL BULB) AND TAAADAA. NOT EXACTLY THE SAME LOOK, BUT IT WORKS JUST FINE.
I LOOK A LITTLE FBI STYLE, BUT WHO CARES. I THINK I BOUGHT THIS "EXTENSION"
AT RADIO SHACK OR A CHECKER, AUTO ZONE TYPE. Wayne in Denver.

I had the antenna go bad on mine. I suggest getting a universal fit for your car, which would be either trunk or wagon style (as opposed to front fender style.) I got one for $20 off an internet retailer and it works just fine. You may need to modify it a little to support it from the bottom and to get it watertight. The one I put on came with a lugnut type fastner which I screwed into the Volvo trim to keep rain out.
