i have a 1982 kjetronic car and it has the white cap distributor. Is this the Mpg type 240?

Whats so different about these cars?

Is the gas mileage expected to be different?

Yes it has a Chrysler ignition system. The B21F MPG has a CI fuel injection system and a computer comtrolled ignition system.

Listed below are the changes to the MPG engine from the 81 B21F.

New camshaft
New Distributor
Larger fuel accumulator
Modified catalytic converter
Modified Lambda -sond
New Electronic control unit for the Lambda-sond system
New electronic control unit fo CIS (Concstant Speed Idle)
New electronic control unit for computer controlled ignition system
Blocking of the lambda-sond system during eraly warm-up period.

Hp was only 98. It still run well at least with the M46 transmission as that is what mine has. Only realy problem I had was with the plug for the wiring harness for the ignition, mainly the black connector. The C shaped connector would open up just enough to break contact and the engine would start to miss. Close the connector up a little and the engine would run fine.

That model also has a 70 amp alternator.

Our 1983 LH-Jet has the white-cap Volvo/Chrysler ignition. 21 years now and still sparking OK. AFAIK, the distributor is the only Chrysler component in the system - the ICU is the same as ones on 1984 cars with the Bosch dist.

Given the white cap distributor's reputation as a rather delicate piece, I wouldn't mess with trying aftermarket ignition parts.

'MPG' stood for what it usually means - it was a marketing effort in times of energy "crisis" and fuel prices which looked high then - and look pretty good now! The engines were tuned slightly differently to squeeze a bit better fuel economy.

that is what i assumed as well, i thought maybe these cars had better gas mileage since it was made in 1982 a year of gas crises. I have really low power in this volvo if compared to other volvos but i get about 26/27 mpg gas mileage all around in 45/55 city/highway driving.

Is there a difference hood compartment design though?

I also have an MPG kjet 82. I am very interested in the replies to this post. As far as I know the white caps are chrysler and the red/brown ones are bosch. What does mpg stad for anyhow? Mopar something something...? Also whish of the ignition components are Chrysler? can mopar goodies be had from summit/ jegs for hotter spark? Curious..
