To add to what Chris noted... it isn't enough to simply ground the wire on the lighter rim for three seconds or three times... you need to develop a rythem. There is a necessary sequence, or a pattern, of hits on the lighter ground to elicit the codes. The SRS light will blink each time you hit/ground at the lighter... which is normal... and means nothing to you. When you do it right, the SRS light will seem to turn off (always be ready) then start its sequence of flashes. To clear the code is a bigger PITA because the sequence/rythem of taps on the ground is harder to get down. You can do it, easily, just be patient.
If you look at the top of the webpage in a drop down entitled "features", go to 700/900 FAQ. There is a section on SRS, click on that. Then scan down (or, in all reality, read it all) for the code list.
