Although I don't see any reason why this product wouldn't work as claimed it seems to me that this is just a sales pitch for what is no more than a fancy magnet which needs to be replaced periodically where the filter and plug magnets can be used indefinitely. Also, considering the proximity of the engine mount I wonder if you could even install the filter using this product.

Someone respond! 200

I was thinking just that... space issue(s).

How does the IPD oil filter magnet-thing attach to the filter?
Is it truely removable & interchangable?
Does it last?

I already run a magnetic drain plug, but more protection is always "more better"...

Peace, Jon

I don't have the IPD filter magnet but from the picture it looks to be housed in some sort of enclosure which is shaped to fit right up to the filter. You can take it off and use it again. How long does it last? How long does any magnet last? For quite a while, I guess.
Actually, being cheap, I took a couple of strips of some sort of pliable magnetic stuff that the previous owner of my house left behind. Cut off a couple of short lengths and attached them to either side of the filter. They tend to want to migrate toward the bottom though. I took a small chunk of the same stuff and glued it to the bottom (hex head) of the drain plug. I would have attached it to the inside end but I don't know how this material reacts to motor oil. I only did this on the last oil change so I haven't had a chance to see how much sludge will stick to it but it's due for another change so I will find out pretty soon. Neither of these methods may be as effective as the products from IPD. I don't know how strong the magnetic stuff I used is compared to the IPD products.

I like how they call it a "forcefield," like its super-hero magic or something.

1st of all, what does this actually do that a magnetic drain plug or the IPD filter magnet does't do ? Plus the fact that there is an extra seal joint to potentially leak . The 64K$ question boils down to this : If I continue to change my oil ( Quaker State 10-40 ) & filter ( Mann ,Volvo's OEM ) every three months using the magnetic IPD drain plug WITHOUT using this Magnefine filter what is the worst that could happen to my car ? Some people don't have either the drain plug magnet or the oil filter magnet. I'll probably get the magnet sometime, but the Magnafine thing could be an option for some people if they wanted. Why not? And from what i've heard everywhere so far in all of my reading, (which really is a lot... believe me, i need to do hw, not read about cars all day... dangit... ;D), Quaker State isn't quite the best of stuff... I've always been told to steer away from it, just what i've heard though, just thought i'd pass it along. And i can't comment on Kane's weight remark, although it does make sense. Peace,

It's not the prefilter to concern ... 200

FYI, 10-40 multi-weight motor oil is not a good choice. There is less oil and more modifiers to compensate the weight spread.

If you need thinner (suitable for all climates, including SoCal summers), 10w-30. If you need thicker (towing, leakers, or consistently blazing hot weather), 15w-40.
