K Block motor versus the L Block motor.....hmmmmmmmmmm 200

As I'm finding out, I have both the K block motor in the 90 245, and the L Block motor in the 93 245. What are the major differences in this type of motor. Obviously they look the same. I must say, I do love that 93 245! The 90 245 is very nice also, but the '93 just seems to run and feel better. Thanks for the advice and expert information - I've learned a GREAT deal here from the generous information of other volvo enthusiasts!

Sincerely,

JBeechcraft

This might help..Info from http://bertone.wynott.ca/htm/articles/crankshafts.htm

Early
Produced from 1985 - 1988
Early crank
9mm thick rods

Transitional, or "K" block
Produced during 1989
Late crank
9mm rods
Increased internal block strength

Late
Produced 1989 - 1992
Late crank

Increased internal block strength

Keeo in mind the years above are the production date of the engine..Not the year of the car.... Ex..You have a K block in your 1990..

93+

Late crank
13mm thick rods

You are forgetting one additional engine block. The "R" Block. the best of the best... last redblock motor. very few came into the US also. The L engines are much less prone to piston slap compared to other engines... and I would definatly get one if you had the chance.
